the sea of monstersTitle: The Sea of Monsters

Author: Rick Riordan

Genre: Adventure, Fiction

Rate: ★★★★☆

In this school year, no monsters appeared before Percy Jackson, a half-blood. He did not get attacked by anything and did not get in any trouble, until the last day of the school year. Percy Jackson and his friend, Tyson, were playing a dodge ball with their classmates. Then suddenly, their classmates turns into giant monsters. They both get attacked by the giants until Annabeth, Percy’s half-blood friend, appears invisibly and save Percy and Tyson. Percy was surprised and asked Annabeth why she appeared, and she told them that the Camp Half-Blood was in a danger.

They three went to the camp and saw that the camp’s protection, Thalia’s Pine Tree, was poisoned. They also found out that Tyson was a young Cyclop, an ugly big giant, and a brother of Percy, since they were both Poseidon’s son. This was embarrassing for Percy, because nobody really likes Cyclops.

Percy, Annabeth, and Tyson wants to go on a quest to find the Golden Fleece to cure the poisoned Pine Tree and find the Grover the satyr who is in a big trouble. Although they want to go, the temporary activities director, Tantalus, said Clarrise the daughter of Ares should go. Tantalus send Clarrise, but Percy and the others didn’t understand. They are helped by a god, and secretly went on the quest without getting caught by anyone.

Their adventure starts heading south to the Sea of Monsters. During the quest, they see a cruise ship called Princess Andromeda where Luke, Percy’s enemy and an old friend of Annabeth, leads the ship. They also went through C.C.’s Spa and Resort where Percy turns into a pig.

They finally got to the cave to the Sea of Monsters, but many things occur. Can they survive through the quest, bringing the Golden Fleece and help out Grover?

A Boy in the striped pyjamas

Bruno is a 9-year-old boy growing up during World War II in Berlin with his parents and his 12 year old sister named Gretel.  His father is a high-ranking  officer who, after a visit from Adolf Hitler, he got promoted to be a Commandant. It made the entire family to move away to a place called Out-With which turns out to be Auschwitz. When Bruno gets there, he feels sick after leaving behind his family, grandparents, and his 3 best friends for life.  He is unhappy with his new home. It only has three floors, there are always soldiers coming in and out of the house. Bruno is lonely and has no one to talk to or play with and the house is so small that there is no exploring to be done. However, one day while Bruno is looking out of his window he notices a group of people all wearing the same striped pyjamas  and striped hats or bald heads. Since he is a curious child, Bruno asks his sister who these people are, but she does not know. His father tells him that these people are not real people at all, as they are Jews.  There is also a soldier called Lieutenant Kurt Kotler who is violent in his ways to the Jewish prisoner, Pavel. Pavel works around the house and is always treated badly by Lieutenant Kotler. One day Bruno falls off his swing and Pavel helps him with the wound. Bruno asks if his mother should take him to a doctor, but he replyed saying that he is a doctor. Bruno finds out he is not allowed to explore the back of the house or its surroundings, but due to the combination of curiosity and boredom, he decides to explore. He spots a boy on the other side of the fence. Excited that there might be a boy his age, Bruno introduces himself and finds out Jewish boy’s name is Shmuel. He was taken from his family (his father came with him, his mother and his siblings are at home) and forced to work in Auschwitz. Almost every day, they meet at the same spot. Soon, they become best friends. Bruno and Shmuel even shared the same birthday. They are basically the same person born into different circumstances, one a Jew, the other a German. Bruno’s mother persuades his father to take them back to Berlin  after a year at their new home, while the father stays at Auschwitz. The story ends with Bruno about to go back to Berlin with his mother and sister on the orders of his father. As a final adventure, he agrees to dress in a set of striped pyjamas and go in under the fence to help Shmuel find his father, who went missing in the camp. The boys are unable to find him. Then the boys are mixed up in a group of people going on a march. Boys doesn’t   know where the march will lead. However, they are soon crowded into a gas chamber.

Harry Potter And The Sorcerer’s Stone

The book I read “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s stone is the first book of the Harry Potter series. It is written by J.K. Rowling. It’s about a boy named Harry Potter whose parents were killed by the dark lord, Voldemort. At the same time when Harry’s parents were killed, Voldemort tried to kill Harry too, however somehow Harry survived and Voldemort lost all of his power. This happened when he was a baby. After the incident his uncle took him. When Harry was eleven he received a litter. He was invited to a magic school called Hogwarts. The little surprised him, because he did not know he was a wizard. He thought his parents were killed in a car accident. He did not know his parents were wizard and witch and were killed by the dark lord. He didn’t know anything about his self, his family and magic. With not knowing anything he will start his new life at Hogwarts. Little by little he will know about the connections between himself and Voldemort.

This is the best fantasy book I’ve ever read. I’ll give five stars to this book. I’ll strongly recommend this book to everybody who can read English. I liked the magic, the action, how the story goes on, and every character. You need to read the book to know how well is the story. I recommend you read the book first and then watch the movie.
