’The door feels red hot, as though a fire is burning behind it. I press an ear to the wood – but there’s no crackle. No smoke. Just deep heavy breathing… and a curious dripping sound. My hand’s on the door knob. Inside the room, somebody giggles – low, throaty, sadistic. There’s a ripping sound, followed by snaps and crunches. My hand turns. The door opens. Hell is revealed.’

Grubbs Grady is a normal teenager living in Ireland. He lives with his mom, dad, and sister. But he gets suspicious when his family starts to act differently…

I enjoyed this book very much! It’s dark, it’s scary, it has a bit if humor in it…! But most of all, it’s interesting. There are lots of twists and turns and unexpected surprises! I was entertained until the very last page. I enjoyed the other nine Demonata books as well!

The Graveyard Book

the graveyard bookBook tittle: The Graveyard Book

Author: Neil Gaiman

Genre: Horror/Fantasy

This book is about a boy named Nobody Owens. He lives in a graveyard in England with his ghost foster parents and his guardian, Silas.

One night, when Bod was a toddler, the man Jack came to kill him and his family. The man Jack murdered Bod’s father and his mother. He had taken care of Bod’s elder sister. All the man Jack has to do left, was to kill Bod…

But Bod had heard his parents being killed, and woke up. He soon got bored and crept out of his baby cot. He went downstairs, out of the house,  up the hill, and into the Graveyard before the man Jack could get him.

Mrs. Owens found Bod in the Graveyard. She wanted so badly to keep Bod as her own son. She and Mr. Owens had never had any children of their own. But most of the other residents of the Graveyard do not want to keep Bod. But the Lady on the Grey appears and tells them they should.

As Bod gets older, he has adventures. He meets ghouls, makes friends with a dead witch, tries to go to school with normal living kids, and he meets the man Jack and the Jacks of All Trades after many, many years…

I really enjoyed this book! No matter how many times I read it, I never get tired of it. A reason I love this book is because of the way that the book is different from most books that are about death.  The Graveyard Book makes you look at death in a new way. The way this book describes the dead and the living and all the things in-between is very unique!
